Erik Lehnsherr, ne’er-do-well mystery writer, is looking for a new muse for his upcoming cop-based series. When he meets Detective Charles Xavier, Xavier has no time for Lehnsherr’s nonsense, particularly when Lehnsherr cheerfully asks if Xavier is going to handcuff him (and lets Xavier know his safeword is ‘apples’).
Somehow, Lehnsherr sweet-talks the mayor into assigning him as a permanent ridealong anyway, and eventually, Xavier has to admit that he likes Lehnsherr’s quirky sense of humor and instinct for crime-solving after all…
Wow, Castle!AU chaser! And with Erik as Castle! do want!
Castle!AU. YES PLEASE.

It looks like a piano and it’s played like one too. But Leonardo da Vinci’s invention, the concept of which is preserved on paper records hundreds of years old, would sound like a violin.
For centuries, the instrument has not been heard — until now.
Polish concert pianist Slawomir Zubrzycki recently built the “viola organista” and debuted his interpretation of it at a piano festival in Krakow, Poland, last month.
Zubrzycki posted video of his concert last week [above]. A Q&A by Tygodnik Powszechny with Zubrzycki (translated via Google Translate) reported the pianist finding Vinci’s notes on the instrument dating to 1489.
Further research led Zubrzycki to learn about physical constructions of the instrument dating to the 1600s, but “none has survived to our times,” he said.
Zubrzycki took it upon himself to begin reconstructing the instrument in 2009.
But he wasn’t the only one. Akio Obuchi constructed and played his own viola organista in 2004. Zubrzycki said though that Obuchi’s several iterations of the instrument have flaws.
‘‘I have no idea what Leonardo da Vinci might think of the instrument I’ve made, but I’d hope he’d be pleased,’’ Zubrzycki said of his reconstruction of the instrument, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.
Actually teared up…what a beautiful instrument. Those lower tones are absolutely marvelous.
(Shoutout to thosefourstrings for bringing this to my attention and honestly making my day.)
Anonymous asked: Half-sentence: "You look terrible..."
(warning: angst. for real.)
Charles laughed. The sound caught him by surprise, and he paused for a moment, listening to it echo in his ears. It felt like it had been years since the last time he had even smiled, even though it must only have been…
He tried to think back, tried to count the weeks, but his mind felt fuzzy. The edges of his thoughts blurred, a recognizable symptom of too much use of his power in too little time. A headache pounded relentlessly behind his temples, throbbing to the beat of his pulse. He put the gun in his hand down on the table and took a deep breath, rubbing at his eyes.
"You look terrible," Erik said again from across the room. Charles didn’t have to open his eyes to picture him: he was sitting on the bed, back against the headboard, stupidly long legs crossed on front of him as a gold-painted bullet levitated slowly around his fingers.
"I’m fine," Charles replied. He rested his head against his hands for another moment before opening his eyes again and resuming the work of cleaning his gun.
"You haven’t slept for two days," Erik remarked. There was disapproval in his voice, and it made Charles’ breath stick in his throat for a second. Erik had always hated when he got so busy that he neglected to take care of himself. Hearing the implied scolding in his tone now made Charles ache.
